NFW knows that while vegan leather does not come from animals, it’s not always animal-friendly. Plastic can do a lot of damage to wild animals, and can contaminate their natural environments in a life-threatening way. That’s why their textiles are not made using ‘pleather’ or faux leather, but rather 100% natural, biobased leather made out of plants! This makes them a model vegan brand, and we hope they can soon set the new standard for the fashion industry.
Sustainability
By skipping the fossil fuels, NFW can forgo the use of solvents and harsh chemicals in the production of their materials. The end product does not generate pollution, and is completely recyclable. Their signature product, MIRUM, is engineered using a range of plant ingredients. It boasts a luxurious look and incredible durability. In addition, they’ve managed to set up a closed-loop system for its production! Old MIRUM is recycled into new MIRUM, eliminating waste from its life cycle. This is leather without compromise.

As of 2021, NFW has expanded their manufacturing space for this revolutionary textile by 110,000 square feet, more than doubling their capacity. The facility, located in Peoria, IL will provide plenty of employment opportunities to the city’s struggling areas, and unlock new possibilities for brands to incorporate sustainable plant-based leather into their products.
