Discover The World’s Lowest Carbon Footprint Shoes!
A few months back, Cariuma launched the world’s lowest carbon footprint shoes—the IBI Slip-On, with a carbon footprint of 5.48kg CO₂e (ISO 14067 Certified)!
“For the Cariuma team, this launch is more than just a label on one pair of shoes, but a true statement to the industry at large – that we will continue to commit ourselves to break boundaries and innovating towards a better earth,” shared the brand.
The IBI Slip-Ons are available in 8 different colors to fit your personal style, and are ethically crafted with sustainable bamboo, memory foam, organic cork, Mamona oil, sugarcane, and recycled plastic bottles. The carbon footprint evaluation was based on materials produced, shoe component production, manufacturing, maintenance, and disposal. More info here!
Leaders in the Sustainable Shoe Movement
Cariuma is not the only brand working toward the development of carbon neutral shoes! Adidas is also one of the leaders in the sustainable shoe movement, and has recently unveiled the running shoes with the lowest carbon footprint, called FUTURECRAFT.FOOTPRINT. These vegan sneakers boast an even lower carbon footprint than Cariuma’s already ultra-sustainable pair, at just 2.94kg CO₂e! They’re set for a commercial launch by next year.
These Earth-friendly sneakers are a result of Adidas’ mission to reduce their carbon footprint by 30% over the next 9 years. Another pair they’ve launched in honor of this project is the Mylo-based version of their classic Stan Smiths, made out of mushroom leather! More on this ultra-sustainable material here.
Other notable mentions are Native Shoes, with their kenaf and corn-based Plant Shoe; Sydney Brown with their Natural Fennel Low Sneaker made out of fennel, recycled plastic, and natural rubber; and finally, Vivobarefoot’s Ultra III Bloom sneakers crafted to reverse the effects of water pollution by removing harmful algae blooms from waterways!
