Top 6 Vegan, Cruelty-Free Makeup Brands

vegan cruelty free makeup brand recommendations

Waiting to find a high-quality vegan makeup brand so you can update your entire collection? Perhaps we can help shorten that wait. There are so many cruelty-free makeup brands out there standing up for the animals and fighting against animal cruelty! In fact, some of the big names on our list may surprise you.

Though many brands are cruelty-free, it doesn’t necessarily mean they’re also vegan (or good for your skin). Their products may contain animal-derived ingredients, such as beeswax or carmine (a cochineal insect’s blood). They may also use toxic chemicals that can ultimately harm your skin and the oceans. However, you can purchase any product from the brands on this list stress-free, as they are all 100% vegan-friendly. Not only that, they are also affordable, use clean ingredients, and are high-quality! Score!

Another thing to look at is packaging; some brands are non-toxic and vegan, though the majority of their products come in plastic containers, which may later harm marine life or contaminate natural habitats. Though we aimed for brands that hit all three marks: vegan, non-toxic, and plastic-free, the beauty industry still has a long way to go to reach this goal. Make sure to let them know that they should be focusing on ethical, eco-friendly, and non-toxic products, by supporting brands that are already on the right track!

1. The Lip Bar

This brand is all about promoting diversity and inclusion in the beauty industry. Boasting 26 different foundation shades, they are sending the message that everyone is beautiful, and that it is important to represent everyone.

If you’re inspired by their vision, wait until you hear their incredible story. After being turned down by Shark Tank, The Lip Bar founder Melissa Butler decided she would not let others dictate how she would accomplish her dream. So, she started the brand in her home kitchen! Fast-forward to 2020, and The Lip Bar products are now available in more than 450 Target stores all over the U.S. They’ve even opened their own flagship store in Detroit!

All of The Lip Bar’s products are, of course, vegan and cruelty-free, but they are also incredibly easy to use! Their foundation comes with a built-in-brush, and their eyeliner is ultra creamy, speeding up the application process. Support animal welfare and inclusion in the beauty industry by checking out their beautiful, high-quality products!

2. Paul Penders

One of the cleanest brands out there, many of Paul Pender’s products are EWG verified, meaning they use only the safest and healthiest ingredients! Though this brand focuses mainly on skincare, they also offer natural makeup products like BB cream, mascara, lipstick, and foundation. Make sure to check out their skincare products while you’re browsing their site!

Stars such as Mila Kunis, Gina Carano, Vanessa Calderon, and others, have been spotted wearing Rejuva’s products.

Their foundation ranges from cream to powder to liquid, so you can choose which is best for your skin type. Additionally, they offer makeup tools like vegan-friendly brushes and beauty blenders!

4. Just The Goods

Another skincare-focused brand, Just The Goods products are healthy for you, the animals, and the planet we call home. Their range of makeup is limited, made up of mostly eye shadows, lipstick/gloss, eyeliner, brushes, and bronzer, but we love that many of their products are packaged in glass, aluminum, refillable, and/or recyclable containers!

Basically, this brand is ultra-conscious of its impact on the planet, the animals, and your health! They have a product for every skin type, and we hope you get the chance to check out their page and show them your support.

5. Inika Organics

This Austrailian brands is committed to creating 100% vegan, cruelty-free, halal, natural, and 70%+ organic beauty products. We also love that “76% of [their] Savvy Minerals Liquid Foundation shades were formulated for women of color”! Safe and ethical makeup should be for everybody! In 2020, it’s time to support brands that promote compassion and inclusivity.
