Are McDonald’s Fries Vegan?

McDonald’s offers one of the few certifiably non-vegan fast food french fries. Although some vegans argue that fast food fries are almost never vegan-friendly, since they are cooked in the same oil as animal-derived foods, McD’s fries are non-vegan even before reaching the shared deep fryer.

Unfortunately, this chain’s fries are seasoned with ‘natural beef flavor’, rendering them not suitable for vegans. Although it’s unclear whether this mysterious ingredient is made with actual beef, it does contain hydrolyzed milk as one of its main ingredients.

So, if you’re on the fence about consuming foods that share cooking oil with animal products, you’d likely want to skip out on McDonald’s fries, which contain actual animal derivatives. Hope this helps, and make sure to check out the guides recommended below for more info on vegan-friendly options at popular restaurants!
