Discover The New Vegan Piñatex Sneakers From Nike

Have you ever heard of Piñatex? This all-vegan textile is made out of pineapple leaves! It’s a fantastic eco-friendly leather substitute, since no additional land or water are required to produce the raw materials. In fact, it helps remove 13 million tons of waste from global pineapple agriculture each year, and supports local farmers in the Philippines. However, the great news is, this sustainable textile brand has recently landed a huge break with Nike!

The two companies have teamed up to create a completely vegan sneaker collection called ‘Happy Pineapple’. Each sneaker features sustainable, non-toxic, and low-waste Piñatex, rather than their typical animal leather or ‘pleather’ counterparts. No harmful chemicals or animal products to be found!

The designs are inspired by the fruit itself, lined with yellow and green details, a pineapple on the tongue, as well as recycled cork details for an organic feel. And in this new sustainable collection, Nike recreates classics like Air Force One, Air Zoom, Air Max 95, and more.

Other brands using Piñatex for some of their pieces include Hugo Boss, H&M, Nae Vegan, and even Hilton Hotels! For more info on the environmental impact of Piñatex, check out their official site here. So, would you buy sneakers made out of pineapple leaves? Leave your thoughts below!
