Could AKUA’s New Kelp Burger Help Reverse Climate Change?

On May 20th, sustainable food brand AKUA launched the world’s first kelp burger! Made with ocean-farmed kelp, organic extra virgin olive oil, mushrooms, and other all-natural plant-based ingredients, it’s savory, crispy, and quickly gaining popularity at various markets and restaurants across the country!

The reasoning behind this unorthodox ingredient choice is that kelp farming can help reverse climate change by sequestering carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. After all, it requires CO2 to help it grow! In fact, marine ecologists believe that the expansion of seaweed farming could remove billions of metric tons of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere.

This is why AKUA is committed to using this Earth-saving ingredient to make delicious meals that everyone can enjoy. So far, they’ve come up with Kelp Burgers, Kelp Jerky, Kelp Pasta, and Kelp & Lemon Pepper Seasoning—all in eco-friendly compostable packaging. Not only are these products beneficial to the planet, they’re also loaded with nutrients such as vitamin A, B vitamins, iron, vitamin D, zinc, and so much more!

So far, AKUA’s products are available on their website, at health markets, and at select restaurants in the U.S. These include Honeybee Burger in L.A.; Foothills Milling Co. in Maryville, TN; Central Provisions in Portland, ME, and many others.
