When one brand offers a line of products so environmentally sound, ethically manufactured, and cruelty-free that the entire industry must improve their standards compete with them, it’s something to celebrate. Dan & Méz’s vegan watches, made from pineapple leaves — a product that is usually discarded — are a shining example of this phenomena.

Their mission is to completely shift the industry standard, so that every aspect of the manufacturing process is much more ethical, sustainable, safe, and fair for all involved; from farm to box. In fact, they’re constantly analyzing each aspect of said process, to see how they can improve it even further! Their latest project: developing new plant-based materials made out of mushroom, cork, grapes, and more!

Ethics

All of Dan & Méz’s watches are masterfully crafted by Malchert in Quedlinburg, Germany, where all of their employees are paid a fair wage, are insured, and enjoy great working conditions. The straps are manufactured by Rios, located in Augsburg, Germany.

In addition to offering jobs that pay a fair wage, Dan & Méz products are all 100% vegan and PETA-Approved. No animals were used in the development or for the production of their watches. The materials used are all plant-based — currently, they use pineapple leaves, which also helps support local communities in the Philippines!

Sustainability

Since Dan & Méz watches are currently made out of a material that is typically discarded (pineapple leaves), no additional water or land is required for their production. This makes them one of the most sustainable watch brands in the world — especially since most others use leather, which requires an absurd amount of water for its production. As for the packaging, each watch is placed in a cardboard box and shipped in carbon neutral paper.

However, with Dan & Méz, the progress never stops! They are currently working on developing new materials, as mentioned above, made out of mushrooms, grapes, cork, wood, and even kombucha! Additionally, they are in the process of creating wooden watch boxes that will last much longer, and as a result, will promote less waste.

Another thing to love about this brand is that they have vowed to plant up to 10 trees for each watch sold! So far, they’ve planted over 316,000 trees, and hence, have reduced over 158,000 tons of CO2 from the atmosphere.

Our Favorite Products

Dan & Méz currently carry three watch collections at three different price points — their 1st Season, Day Date Season, and Automatic Season. However, even their most accessible collection is handmade, 3ATM waterproof, features a sapphire crystal glass, and has a 1-year warranty!

However, if I had to choose, my favorite product would be their 1st Season Black watch. Its classic, simple, and elegant design matches almost anything in my wardrobe! It also comes in a stainless steel case, and it’s great to know that three trees are planted for each one purchased. Check it out!
