Heartbest Receives Funding from Blue Horizon Ventures

If you aren’t familiar with Heartbest Foods, they’re a Mexican plant-based company committed to creating delicious dairy substitutes, using rather unconventional ingredients. In fact, if you think peas and amaranth don’t belong in vegan cheese, think again! With multiple cheese products and one vegan milk, they have been hoping to venture out to vegan yogurt and other dairy substitutes products as well. And with their recent $2 million investment from Blue Horizon Ventures, it’s safe to say we will be seeing these products roll out in the near future.

There are 4 reasons behind Heartbest’s belief in plant-based eating: personal wellbeing, climate change, resource efficiency, and animal cruelty. Just like the rest of the world, Mexico is also struggling with health issues, such as diabetes, lactose intolerance, and dietary restrictions. They are also the country with the 14th highest carbon emissions in the world. Heartbest’s products produce 60% less CO2 emissions and require 60% less land than conventional dairy products! It was only a matter of time until they would start to get some major attention and funding.

In addition to their impressively low carbon footprint, Heartbest’s products are vegan, non-GMO, carrageenan free, nut free, soy free, gluten free, high in protein, and use only palm oil (in their VegiCheez) certified by the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil. They are currently available exclusively in Mexico, at Walmart and ‘Super Mayoreo Naturista’.
