Amazing Vegan Restaurants in Brighton UK

Brighton is one of the best places to visit in the UK if you are following a vegan diet. In this article, I will share my experience visiting Brighton for a day whilst enjoying the amazing vegan food options.

My husband lived in Brighton for 3 years, so we often enjoy traveling there to see friends and of course love exploring the city. We never find it difficult eating out as most restaurants have a vegan meal option on the menu or are willing to accommodate my dietary requirements. Here are some of the places in Brighton where you can enjoy wonderful vegan food all in one day!

Breakfast

The Full Vegan Platter at The Breakfast ClubCafé. This café has beautiful interior decor painted in my favorite color; bright yellow! It's a very popular place so make a reservation ahead of time otherwise you may need to wait for a table depending on the day.

I recommend ordering their Bloody Mary cocktail if you are feeling up for it because they are delicious! The full vegan platter includes scrambled tofu, bhaji, tomato, southern greens, toasted rye, tomato relish, and avocado.

After breakfast, you can enjoy taking a walk around the city and through the beautiful lanes which offer a variety of coffee shops and cafes as well as options for shopping.

Here you can find food options such as sushi, burritos, pizza, salads, gelato and a variety of cuisines all offering vegan meals. The “lanes” are known for being trendy with an ‘artsy’ vibe to them. Shops open around 10 am.

Lunch

My recommendation for lunch is at a place called Terre a Terre. This restaurant is well worth the higher price tag given the amazing flavor combinations and a wide variety of vegan meals that you must try if you are in Brighton! Terre a Terre is a vegetarian and vegan restaurant offering sustainable and ethical menus. Amanda Powley and Philip Taylor are classically trained chefs who wanted to push the boundaries of meat-free cooking and they have wildly succeeded!

Starter: We began our meal with two entrees. The first was the Smokey ChipsScrunched: fried corn chips seasoned with tasty smokey spice dust and served with delicious avocado-lime guacamole.

The second was the Aubergine Dengaku which is slow-baked aubergine (eggplant) with tahini, sesame miso, edamame, wasabi and Yuzo paste. The combination is served with fresh ginger dressed noodle salad dusted with nori salt.

Main Meals: We ordered the following main meals. The first was the Rosti Revisited a dish of fried potatoes, onion, and garlic, with sautéed spinach, plant-based nut butter, and the vegan option is served with marinated smoked tofu.

The second main meal was the Sneaky Peeking Steamers steamed rice buns filled with marinated mapo tofu, kimchi Chinese cabbage, and miso chili sauce.

Dessert: We finished with the amazing Snap Crackle & Choc a rich dessert made from 70% cacao mousse, hazelnut cream, on a praline chocolate shortbread served with a light clementine sorbet and dark chocolate shards.

So, after one seriously incredible lunch, I considered eating only carrots for dinner to balance everything out. Then I saw what I could have for dinner...

Dinner

Just when I thought the vegan food could not get any better today, we found Purezza!Vegan Pizza. For those of you who do not know me well enough yet; pizza is my favorite food! I can literally eat pizza every day if I could.. When I first decided to go vegan, pizza made me become a "cheagan" because I just couldn’t enjoy pizza without cheese. Now, thanks to the dairy-free cheese options I can still enjoy pizza without the animal products! So of course, whenever I can order an amazing vegan pizza, I am the happiest woman in the world!

I ordered Purezza’s Here Comes Truffle pizza, which is topped with black truffles, wood-smoked tofu, mixed wild forest mushrooms, vegan mozzarella, and fresh micro herbs. "Take my money" is all I can say!

As you can see from just one day of enjoying the food in Brighton, this city is very vegan-friendly. Brighton is also known for the biggest gay pride parade in England. There are so many vegetarian and vegan cafes in Brighton to choose from that focus on sustainability and community.

Brighton’scontinuously growing vegan community means that it is fast becoming one of thebest places for plant-based food you will find! There is a real buzz here whenit comes to ethical eating with more and more people choosing to order themenu’s vegetarian or vegan option.

Other Vegan-Friendly Restaurants (worth trying)

My Brighton friends are crazy about sushi and they love this restaurant called Moshimo. I admit that I am always uncomfortable going to a sushi restaurant because of the horrible state our oceans are in due to overfishing. But I found out that Moshimo was quite a different sushi place. To start, they do not serve fish that are listed as “fish to avoid” by the Marine Conservation Society.

Then I looked at their menu and almost fell to the floor. 31 vegan and vegetarian options... say what??? Further research and I find out that their vegan menu is award-winning and highly sustainable. They are the ONLY non-vegan restaurant to win a PETA award for promoting plant-based eating. Ok, I am feeling less guilty by the minute...

So my husband and I decide to order the vegan sushi platter also named "Vegan Geta Set". I am in pure heaven. For once I am not only eating avocado and cucumber makis. I got to eat Gunkan (Pickled walnut), Mushroom teriyaki, Natto & spring onion, Nigiri: Inari, Maki made of vegan cheese & sun blushed tomatoes, Inari tofu & kampyo, Tofu, mizuna, sun-dried tomato, red onion & cucumber and Hosomaki (2 ume plum & cucumber). What an experience!

Tourist Attractions in Brighton

Aside from the amazing food scene, you might also like to check out some of the main attractions in Brighton during the day. You can visit the Brighton Palace Pier which offers rides, food and other attractions.

This is a great place to take the kids for a fun day out and an enjoyable place to relax between lunch and dinner. The pier is open 7 days a week only closing on Christmas Day and gates open from 10 am. If the pier is not your travel style, visit the local museums instead.

The Royal Pavilion is part of Brighton’s colorful history and is instantly recognizable. The Pavilion offers audio guides in different languages, a gift shop, and a tearoom. Also popular is the Brighton Museum which is located within the Royal Pavilion Garden. The museum is open Tuesday to Sunday from 10 am to 5 pm. You can find a café and tearoom on-site and the museum houses a variety of artworks and ongoing exhibitions.

Brighton is also host to a Vegan Food Festival called Vegan Summer Festival in June. You can visit the festival to celebrate all things vegan often hosting over 80 food stalls, cooking demonstrations and live entertainment.
